"Self-assessment isn't about pass or fail. It is about calibration. You measure where you are, compare it to where you aimed, and adjust the trajectory. The mistake isn't the problem—failing to measure it is."

Dr. Robert Thirsk, Canadian Astronaut & Engineer

At the end of each physical activity unit, you need to reflect on your progress and choices. The Assessment Form is your opportunity to review your logs, evaluate your performance, and plan modifications for the next unit.

As an Assessment for Learning, this self-reflection helps you analyze your habits, recognize physical adaptations, and take ownership of your physical wellness and learning journey.

Reflection Guidelines

When writing your reflections, aim to be honest, descriptive, and analytical:

  • Analyze contributing factors: Think about why you succeeded or faced challenges (e.g., consistency, soreness, scheduling).
  • Assess physical changes: Describe how your body adapted to the training (e.g., changes in endurance, strength, flexibility, recovery rate).
  • Evaluate lifestyle alignment: Analyze how external factors like sleep, nutrition, and relationships impacted your energy levels and performance.
💡

Reflection Tip: High-quality reflection connects your daily quantitative logs to your overall physical state. Use the numbers from your logs (e.g., RPE trends, heart rate changes, or strength gains) to back up your explanations.

Assessment Form Questions

Use these questions to draft and prepare your responses before completing the form in the course app:

  1. Goal Accomplishment: Rate your overall success in accomplishing the goal you set for yourself this unit (on a scale of 1-5).
  2. Success Factors: What factors contributed to your level of success this unit? Review your Activity Logs: how closely did your actual training match your initial Fitness Plan, and how did you adapt to any hurdles?
  3. Fitness Changes: How did your level of physical fitness change over the course of the unit? Reference specific quantitative data trends from your logs (e.g., changes in times, weights, heart rate, or RPE).
  4. Skill Development: What specific movement skill did you practice or refine? Detail how you applied movement principles (e.g., preparation, execution, follow-through) and describe your progress.
  5. Goal Support: Analyze your nutrition, hydration, and sleep choices this unit. How did these daily habits affect your training energy levels, focus, and recovery?
  6. External Factors: How did external factors (e.g., academic workload, social relationships, screen time) influence your stress levels and your consistency in training?
  7. Life Impact: Describe the broader impact of physical activity on your overall well-being. How did regular training affect your mental health, mood, cognitive focus, or daily physical comfort?
  8. Motivation: How has your performance and reflection during this unit shaped your motivation and attitude toward maintaining an active, healthy lifestyle in the future?
