Skill Demonstration

Suggested Duration: 0.75 Hours

"When you step out to compete, the training exposes itself. What you did in practice is what shows up on the floor. It's not magicβ€”it's just feedback."

Scott Moir, 3-Time Olympic Gold Medalist Ice Dancer

Developing a physical skill is a journey of consistent effort, adjustments, and patience. The Skill Demonstration is your chance to show the progress you've made throughout this unit. It isn't about performing a flawless movement on the first try; it is an opportunity to reflect on how your preparation has translated into practice, how you've integrated safety protocols to protect yourself and others, and how this skill fits into your overall active living goals.

In your video submission, you will walk through the specific phases of your skill and demonstrate how your training hours have paid off. Use this task to showcase your growth, celebrate your consistency, and share what you have learned about how your body moves.

πŸ’‘

Video Recording Tip: Set up your recording device on a stable surface or tripod. Make sure your entire body and any relevant equipment are clearly visible, and that the area is well-lit so your teacher can evaluate your form in each phase.

There are four things you need to do in your skill demonstration:

  1. Connect to Your Fitness Plan Goal: Introduce the video by stating the specific, personal goal you chose in your Fitness Plan and explain why you selected this movement skill to support that goal.
  2. Discuss the three phases of movement in the skill:
    • Preparation (wind-up): Body gets ready; positioning and balance are set to generate force.
    • Execution (action): Main movement where force is produced and the skill is performed.
    • Follow-through (recovery): Motion continues after contact/release to slow the body safely and maintain accuracy and balance.
  3. Show Your Progress Data & Chart: Copy your logged data from the course app (using the "Copy" button), paste it into Google Sheets, and create a chart/graph. Screen-share or overlay this chart/graph in your video to explain what the trend line shows about your skill improvement over the course of the unit.
  4. Discuss safe execution of your skill and any precautions people should take.
πŸ“Š How to Create a Chart in Google Sheets
Method A: Standard Google Sheets Steps
  1. Select the range of cells containing your data (including headers/labels).
  2. In the top menu, click Insert > Chart. Sheets will generate a chart automatically.
  3. Use the Chart editor panel on the right to change the chart type (e.g., to a "Line Chart" to show progress over time) or customize labels under the Customize tab.
Method B: Gemini AI Steps
  1. Open your sheet and click the Gemini spark icon in the top toolbar (or the side panel).
  2. Type a prompt like: "Create a line chart showing my weekly improvement for the selected cells" or "Suggest a chart to visualize this data."
  3. Gemini will analyze your selection and insert the chart directly into your sheet.
