This course is self-directed and includes four Activity Units (each representing 15% of your grade), a Healthy Living module (representing 5% of your grade), and an exam task.
Each Activity Unit requires 20 hours of activities in addition to other assignments. Activity Units do not have to be focused on one particular sport/activity. Instead, they should track all of the activity you do in a period of time, and show some combination of strength & conditioning, cardiovascular training, and mobility/recovery work.
Because the course is hours-based, competitive athletes can complete it quite quickly. Here is an example for a hockey player who works out in their home gym on days with no practices/games, walks their dog and stretches every day, and goes snowmobiling with friends on the weekend:
| Activity | Duration | Total |
|---|---|---|
| Hockey | 2 hr practice (2x/week) 3 hr game (1x/week) |
7 hrs |
| Gym (Strength & Conditioning) | 25 mins (4x/week) | 1 hr 40 mins |
| Stretching (Recovery / Mobility) | 25 mins (7x/week) | 2 hrs 55 mins |
| Snowmobiling | 5 hrs 30 mins | 5.5 hrs |
| Nature Walk | 25 mins walk with dog (7x/week) | 2 hrs 55 mins |
| Total Weekly Activity | 20 hours |
Note that a wide variety of activities are included that represent all of Strength and Conditioning, Cardio, and Mobility/Recovery, including leisure activities that are consistent with the goals of the student's fitness plan.
| Before Starting Each Unit | Logging Your Work |
|---|---|
| Planning Form (20 mins) (Assessment for Learning) Fitness Plan (25 mins) (Assessment of Learning) |
Activity Logs (20 hours) (Assessment for Learning) Self-Assessment (20 mins) (Assessment for Learning) Interview (40 mins) (Assessment of Learning) Skill Demonstration (40 mins) (Assessment of Learning) |
Note: Before submitting any graded product (e.g., the Fitness Plan, Skill Demonstration video, or Health AOL assignments), you must complete and upload a Pre-Submission Self-Assessment (Assessment as Learning) to critique and refine your work.
The course also contains a Health Unit where you will investigate various topics from nutrition, personal safety and human development. This unit requires a handful of short research-based assignments.
The Exam Task is always accessible. You are encouraged to preview it in order to see what you are working towards.
